An interactive cross-section of the Grand Canyon. Click through 16 exposed rock layers, each one a snapshot of a different moment across nearly 2 billion years, with a direct link to that layer's rock type and its place on the geologic time scale.
More animated formation diagrams
Karakoram, Caucasus, Zagros, Scandinavian Mountains, and Southern Alps currently use photos and text like the rest of the site, without the hand-animated interactive cross-sections the original nine ranges have. Same treatment is planned for the Field Notes articles too.
